Four UiTM students killed in road accident

Their car collided with a lorry at Km4.2 of Jalan Machang – Pasir Puteh yesterday, taking the lives of four.

Plans to celebrate the end of examinations turned to tragedy for five students after their car collided with a lorry at Km4.2 of Jalan Machang-Pasir Puteh today, taking the lives of four.

Machang police chief DSP Malek Bedut said Mohd Shamil Malik, from Batu Pahat and Mohd Rizal Mohd Zain, from Kluang, Johor, died on the spot in the 5.30am incident.

The other fatal victims, Mohd Faizuddin Jamil and Sazuan Rosli, also 19, and from Pekan, Pahang, died while being treated at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian, he said.

The students were second and third-year fine arts students at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Machang campus.

Mohd Faizuddin and Sazuan who sustained serious injuries were sent to Machang Hospital before being transferred to HUSM.

Mohd Faizuddin died at 4.30pm and Sazuan, upon receiving emergency treatment at the hospital.

The injured victim, Haziz Jailani, who hails from Batu Pahat, Johor, received outpatient treatment at Machang Hospital.

It is learnt that the lorry was trying to make a U-turn in the dark condition when the collision happened. The lorry driver was unhurt.

A friend of the students, Mohd Fakaruddin Mahyi, 19, told reporters that they had just finished their exams and wanted to relax at Pantai Cahaya Bulan in Kota Baharu.

Mohd Fakaruddin said he initially wanted to join the group but decided not to as the car was already full.
