A senior police officer shot dead a 19-year-old youth who tried to rob him together with five other men in front of
his house in Lorong Burhanuddin Helmi 6, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, last night.
City police CID chief Ku Chin Wah said in the 9.45pm incident, the police officer with the rank of superintendent had just returned after having dinner when he was waylaid by the men.
“He was just getting out of the car when the men came at him armed with parangs. He took off and while doing so dropped some valuable items which the suspects picked up.
“The trick worked and this gave him time to draw his pistol and fire three shots, one of which hit the body of one of the suspects,” Ku told reporters at the scene.
Ku said the injured man died at the scene while the others managed to escape in motorcycles parked nearby.
The body of the dead suspect was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects.
