The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) today launched the PDRM Twitter in another customer-friendly approach to enhance its quality and image.
Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar said twitter would be a platform for the force to directly channel information to the community speedily, accurately and precisely.
“This social web interaction between PDRM and the community can crucially help in resolving and ensuring the success of a case,” he told reporters at PDRM Facebook’s first anniversary and Twitter launch held at its college in Cheras.
He said PDRM’s official twitter would present current news, media broadcast and PDRM’s activities as well as report daily traffic congestion, especially during peak hours on main routes throughout the country.
“PDRM also see twitter as a major communication medium which can promote other social media such as blogs and facebook,” he said.
According to Ismail, the move to set up the new medium was decided following the success of the PDRM facebook launched on Sept 21 last year to bridge the gap between the PDRM and the community and diminish negative public perception about the force.
“The ‘face to face’ concept with internet users is effective in endearing PDRM facebook fans to the PDRM leadership which is proven from PDRM’s 85,000 facebook fans who keep increasing,” he added.
