Pak Lah: I was clear about reforms

Former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said he was very clear about the reforms he wanted to institute when he was in office.

Former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said he was very clear about the reforms he wanted to institute when he was in office.

“Perhaps when I was in office I should have been more forceful about it considering the resistance I was facing,” he said in a statement issued last night.

He was responding to a statement made by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Aziz today that during Abdullah’s time there was some opposition against his reform plans because Abdullah had not clearly indicated what he wanted to do.

Local news portals reported that Nazri had said this when asked to comment on Abdullah’s comments that his reforms were opposed by hardliners.

Abdullah said he hoped that Prime Minister Najib Razak would be more forceful with his reform plans.

“Of course when a leader wants to bring changes, there will be those who support and there will be some who oppose.

However, if a leader is clear in his mind that what he wants to do is right, he must see it through,” he said.
