Northern states face floods

Bilik Gerakan Banjir Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (Sosial services) recorded that as of 6 p.m. yesterday, three flood relief centers have been opened and a total of 21 families have been relocated to Titi Tinggi Hilir Community Hall, Kampung Panggas Community Hall, Kampung Guar Medang Gatal Community Hall.

 

The continuous rain for the last two days left several parts of the state flooded. Affected areas include Kangpung Syed Omar, surrounding areas of Padang Besar including Panggas, Titi Tinggi and Guar Medang Gatalwere submerged in rising water levels.

Director of Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran (JPS) Perlis, Ir Nishad Mohamed Mohd Shaffy said that all six dam doors at the Timah Tasoh Dam here had to be opened as the water levels in the dam had reached 29.29 meters which is far above the normal level.

The Meteorogical department has also raised the orange warning Flag as the water levels at the Jekarum and Pelarit Rivers exceeded dangerous levels.

Rescue operations are are in place and on call to provide immediate assistance to flood victims.
