The Democratic Action Party (DAP) is making preparations to penetrate rural towns in Sarawak, its state chairman Wong
Ho Leng said today.
He said the “going rural” decision resulted in the formation of a pro-tem committee in Kanowit where the constituents are predominantly Iban with a sizeable Malay and Chinese population.
“The members (of the committee) are multi-racial, from the three races. The documentation is in place. We are only awaiting the Registrar of Societies’ approval for (the setting up of) a branch,” he said when launching the committee
here.
Wong, who is Sibu MP and Bukit Assek state assemblyman, said the party would then shift its focus to Kapit, another predominantly Iban area.
“We want to help the local folk protect their rights and interests. There are still many houses and longhouses in the rural areas without the basic amenities,” he said.
