The phone conversation took place at 9.15am using the mobile phone of Menteri Besar Perak Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir who visited her at her house in Taman Mewah Kamunting, together with his wife Saripah Zulkifli.

Nurul Atikah, 14, said the prime minister comforted her and offered words of encouragement.

“He asked me about my health and about my parents. The happiest moment was when I wished the prime minister ‘Selamat Hari Raya’. He is my idol,” she said.

Dr Zambry said that despite her condition, Nurul Atikah was in high spirit during the conversation with Najib.

The girl’s father Samsudin Hasbullah, 53, said her daughter had undergone 18 chemotherapy since the past two years.

“We have been going to Kuala Lumpur for Atikah’s treatment. She was able to move around in a wheel-chair previously but now she is bed-ridden,” he said.
