The Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) will set up 110 special farmers’ markets throughout the country during the coming festive season.
Its chairman, Badruddin Amiruldin said the objective was to make it convenient to the public, especially the Muslims, to get essential items to prepare for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
“They will begin on Aug 21 until 30 throughout the country,” he told reporters after handing out motor tricycle aid at the Terengganu Fama office, today.
Also present was the State Fama Director, Hasan Jusoh.
Badruddin said Fama had 458 farmers’ markets operating throughout the country currently.
He said Fama had directed traders at the farmers’ markets to sell their goods between five and 20 per cent cheaper than the normal retail price during the festive season.
“These include coconuts, meat, onions, potatoes and other essential items,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said Fama aimed to distribute 1,000 tricycles to entrepreneurs throughout the country under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
So far, he said, 206 of the tricycles had already been distributed to the entrepreneurs.
