Approximately RM28 million is spent annually to provide dialysis treatment for Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) veterans
suffering from kidney problems.

ATM Veterans’ Affairs Department director-general Major General Zulkiflee Mazlan said it was part of the annual medical allocation of RM40 million given to the army veterans.

“The ATM Veterans’ Foundation now has two dialysis centres and we are planning to increase the number in the future depending on the allocation and other sponsors,” he told reporters after presenting Aidilfitri donations for the veterans at ATM Foundation Dialysis Centre in Seri Kembangan, yesterday.

The other dialysis centre owned by the Foundation is located in Batu Caves, Selangor.

Zulkiflee said a total of 3,000 ATM veterans were suffering from kidney problems and 2,000 of them were currently undergoing dialysis treatment nationwide.

Meanwhile, he said the department had allocated RM1.6 million as Aidilfitri donations for 3,259 ATM veterans aged 70 and above, as well as army widows and other individuals.

“It is hoped that the donations will help them in their preparation to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” he said.
