The Home Ministry has called up the Editor-in-Chief of The Star newspaper for running Ramadan articles which carried pictures of pork dishes.
Its deputy secretary-general (Security) Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi said the pictures and also promotion of non-halal restaurants were carried in the paper’s “Ramadan Delights” supplement.
He said the ministry wanted to make it known to the newspaper that it was wrong to do this as it was insensitive.
“The ministry views this very seriously, more so as it is a supplement that is aimed at helping Muslims choose food outlets for breaking the fast,” he said in a statement here today.
He added that the newspaper had admitted its mistake and would be issuing an apology tomorrow.
