As the issue of taxi coupon system in Johor Bahru reached its boiling point, Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) in Johor Bahru became a victim of circumstance when an officer was assaulted by a dissatisfied taxi driver, last Sunday.

SPAD assistant enforcement officer, Asmadi Mat was seated in a car with two other officers monitoring a protest by taxi drivers in JB Sentral, when a taxi driver approached him and dragged him out of the car.

Relating to the incident, Asmadi said, “when I was dragged out of the car, I was confronted by some forty-five taxi drivers who were expressing their anger and hurling abusive words at me then suddenly someone landed two blows on my back.”

” Our camera was taken away by one of the taxi drivers which we used to prepare our report on the taxi drivers protest”, said Asmadi after lodging a police report at the Johor Bahru central police station.

Accompanying Asmadi to lodge the police report was the CEO of Mesra Indah Jaya Sdn Bhd., Norayuliza Ab Karim.

“Other SPAD officers did not intervene during the commotion as our team was overwhelmed by the numbers and also to avoid the situation from turning ugly”, added Asmadi.
