Some 30 people were feared dead when a bus plunged into a ravine in Genting Highlands this afternoon.
Genting Highlands Fire and Rescue Department officer Mohd Shukri Mohd Noor was reported saying that an emergency call was received at 2.22pm.
The Star online reported that at least 33 people are feared dead following the accident.
The accident occurred at KM36 of the Genting-Kuala Lumpur highway, some two kilometres from the Chin Swee Caves Temple, as the bus carrying 49 passengers was coming down from Genting Highlands and heading towards Kuala Lumpur.
Rescuers are frantically working to reach people trapped in the bus. Some 30 policemen and nine ambulances are at the scene.
Traffic in the area is at a standstill as police ensure rescue vehicles can reach the scene of the accident.
Bentong MP Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai is en route to the accident site.
The Star online also reported that all involved in the tragedy were locals.
Utusan Malaysia Online reported that about 14 victims have been removed from the bus, however their mortality status has yet to be confirmed.
