Several areas in Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley are experiencing massive congestion during Friday peak hour as police erect road blocks ahead of midnight, as originally announced.
Among the roads affected are those near The Summit in Subang Jaya, Sunway Pyramid after the toll plaza; Section 17 Petaling Jaya going towards Sprint Highway; Kajang and Semenyih going towards Sungai Ramal; KL-Seremban Highway going towards KL after toll plaza, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur.
Netizens have poured their frustration out on Twitter, describing the police action as a “no brainer good for nothing roadblock.”

Police will lock down several roads leading into the Kuala Lumpur city center starting midnight tonight, ahead of the Bersih rally tomorrow.
The blockades and diversions are scheduled to come into force at 12.01am, and will affect entry points along the entire stretch of Jalan Syed Putra, Jalan Istana, Jalan Bukit Petaling, Jalan Bellamy and the area surrounding Istana Negara.
Also affected would be the area surrounding the National Mosque in the Lake Gardens vicinity, covering the entire stretch of Jalan Sultan Hishammuddin, Jalan Lembah Perdana and Jalan Chenderasari.
In the city centre, blockades will be set up around Dataran Merdeka, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek, Dataran DBKL, Kompleks Sogo, Maju Junction, Masjid Kampung Baru, Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Sri Amar, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Haji Taib, Jalan Raja Muda Musa, Jalan Raja Bot, Jalan Raja Abdullah, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Gereja, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Loke, Jalan Sultan Mahmud and all nearby areas.
Bersih, the election reform group has vowed to proceed with its planned demonstration at the Stadium Merdeka despite the authorities declaring it illegal and police warning that participants will be detained.
Update:the situation in Kedah
Komunitikini Citizen Journalist, Dave Kameron reports that in Alor Setar, express buses and trucks have been stopped, boarded and searched by the police. He writes, as at 9.19pm this evening:
“Just passed Sungai Dua toll, south-bound.
“Currently witnessing an express bus being boarded by the police.
“Noticed trucks being stopped and searched too.
“Also gathered info from schoolchildren in Alor Setar that flyers were distributed in schools and kids asked to inform parents to stay home, preferably.”
Update: the situation on the Federal Highway, Kuala Lumpur:
Citizen Journalist coordinator, Maran Perianen, reports at 10pm, July 8, that the police are stopping and checking virtually every car just after the exit from the Federal Highway to the LDP expressway. This is traffic headed towards Kuala Lumpur.
Traffic is backed up for kilometers, right up to the Batu Tiga toll booth, at Shah Alam.
