A special corporation will be set up to plan and coordinate projects under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Scheme (PR1MA) throughout the nation, Prime Minister Najib Razak said.
The corporation, known as 1Malaysia Housing Programme Corporation, and placed under the Prime Minister’s Department, would also distribute houses under the projects to eligible recipients, he said.
An Act governing the new corporation was being formulated and would be tabled in parliament in the next sitting, he said. “We foresee that this will give us a very good opportunity to develop the industry in a big way.
“It is hoped that this special corporation will propel PR1MA programmes in line with the concept of ‘1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now,'” he said at the launch of PR1MA, today.
Najib said the new policy would provide a wider opportunity for Malaysians to own a house and assure them of a better future.
“I hope that all the projects identified under this programme can be implemented in a prompt manner because they are highly needed and are eagerly awaited by many,” he said.
Meanwhile, Economic Planning Unit director-general Noriyah Ahmad told a news conference that the corporation was expected to be set up early next year.
Noriyah said that the registration to purchase houses under the PR1MA programme could only be done after the corporation had been set up.
