The High Court here today ordered a 50-year-old Indian national to be sent to the gallows after he was found guilty
of trafficking in 5,759.3 grammes of ketamine two years ago.
Judge Datuk Mohd Azman Hussin passed the death sentence after the prosecution managed to prove a prima facie case against Methan Aydroos Mohamed Pillai Naina Mohamed.
Methan Aydroos Mohamed who worked in a printing company in India, was accused of committing the drug offence at the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Kepala Batas, here at 3.25pm on May 11, 2009.
He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and sentenced under Section 39B(2) of the same Act which provides for the mandatory death panelty.
The accused who was represented by lawyer R.S.N. Rayer, appeared calm when the sentence was passed on him. DPP Naziah Mokhtar from the Customs Department appeared for the prosecution.
