The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has denied allegations that it is issuing licences to foreign traders in the country.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Ahmad Fuad Ismail said the local traders’ tendency to sublet their licences to foreigners had led to this negative perception.
He said foreigners had been encouraged to seize the opportunity from some locals who were not interested in the business because of the long hours and low returns.
City Hall took action on the matter from time to time but even repeated restrictions failed to keep the foreigners away as they had been paid to be here, he said during Bernama Radio24’s ‘Hot Seat’ programme recently.
On another note, Ahmad Fuad also revealed that the DBKL had more than 800,000 in unpaid summonses for indiscriminate parking by motorists.
He appealed for the public to cooperate with DBKL by parking their vehicles at alloted spaces, saying the shortage of space was not an excuse as there were ample lots.
