Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) will produce a sitcom on proper use of the Malay language to mark independence day.
Information Communication and Culture Minister, Dr Rais Yatim, said the series will make improper use of terms as comedy and the basis for storytelling, just like this sentence.
“We want to inject humour in the series via improper usage that will be corrected at the end,” he told reporters after opening a seminar and launching, ironcially, the Editors Association of Malaysia (PEM) in Seri Kembangan here today. (There is no information on PEM, presumably another NGO, in this report.)
The 15-minute series will be produced jointly with the private sector and is claimed to be similar to ‘Mind Your Language’, which is described as a popular 1970s series.
Rais said RTM is working on the title for the series that will also bebroadcast via radio. He urged newspaper publishers to provide more space for poems and short stories just like in the 1950s.
On PEM, he hopes that its establishment will improve the professionalism of editors and will cooperate in organising poem and short story contests.
