PETALING JAYA – The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) have stepped up efforts in ensuring that the city is ready to entertain locals and international visitors for the Petaling Jaya International Festival, from June 17 to 22.
Organised with support from the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF), the festival with the theme of Folk Arts, is a celebration of cultures as part of Petaling Jaya 8th year anniversary of becoming a city.
“We started our preparations for the festival in February this year. We have been improving the facilities in various locations around PJ such as improving the five foot ways for pedestrians, building the boulevard to foster more interaction among residents. Our efforts will continue after the festival is over as we head towards becoming a barrier-free city,” said Haniza Abdul Hamid, Director of Public Relations, MBPJ.
MBPJ have been actively collaborating with the PJ community in its efforts in publicizing the festival. Restaurant operators and owners in the vicinity have been supporting the festival over the past few months. The council is also working together with students at nearby art college to come up with creative ideas for the festival and beyond such as design and painting trash bins placed all over the city.
