Public outcry over bludgeoning stray dogs to death

JOHOR BAHRU – 4 NGOs came forward to lodge police reports against MBJB after a horrific video alleging MPJBT officers bludgeoning seven stray dogs to death with an iron rods. [VIDEO]

Some fifteen individuals from four non-governmental organisations lodged reports at Skudai police station on June 11, 2014 against the Johor Bahru Central Municipal Council (MPJBT) over allegation that some of its officers bludgeoned strays dogs to death.

Malaysia Independent Animal Rescue (MIAR), Johor Bahru Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JB SPCA), Companion Animal Rescue Effort Society (Cares) and Homeless and Orphan Pet Exist (HOPE) were the four NGOs that lodged the police reports.

Among the individuals who lodged the report was Aida Iskandar, 45, who told CJMY that she could not stomach the cruelty against these dogs.

“I am disgusted to see how the stray dogs were treated and not sure how they could do this for living.

This is very cruel,” added Aida.

Another volunteer who works for HOPE, Serena Tan, 26, commented that HOPE has approached the MPJBT in past to help with their operation to curtail stray dogs but their offer has been turned down by MPJBT.

A horrific video alleging MPJBT officers bludgeoning seven stray dogs to death with an iron rods went viral after a passer-by recorded and uploaded the video onto Facebook.

MPJBT president Sallehuddin Hassan had recently admitted responsibility for the incident, describing it as a “terrible mistake”.
