MH17: A day of national mourning

KLIA – The remains of 19 Malaysians who was on the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines MH17 aircraft that was shot down in east of Ukraine on July 17 during a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, flown back today.

The remains of 20 Malaysians who was on the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines MH17 aircraft that was shot down in east of Ukraine on July 17 during a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, flown back today.

The flight, landed at 9:54 a.m., carried the remains of 20 of the 43 Malaysian passengers from among the 298 passengers and crew who perished.

They received full honour at the KLIA’s Bunga Raya Complex in Sepang in a ceremony before being handed over to their respective families.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak attend the ceremony at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The ceremony followed by a minute’s silence observed nationwide for the victims, the first of 43 Malaysians who died in the crash.

All 298 on board were killed, including 193 Dutch nationals.

The Malaysian government has also declared that today is the day of national mourning day.

The remaining Malaysians will be flown back from Amsterdam on August 24th.
