The body of a man, who was believed to have been murdered, was retrieved from Sungai Mati, Jalan Kilang Tebu near Kampung Batin, yesterday morning.
The victim identified as Low Choon Aik, 26, who had his legs and neck tied to stones, was believed to have been murdered elsewhere and dumped into the river, said Kedah CID chief ACP Zakaria Ahmad.
He said the victim was identified by his family and a post-mortem would be conducted tomorrow to determine the cause of death. The victim, who lived in Taman Teratai Jingga, Jalan Pegawai and worked at Kompleks Hijau Kuning was reported missing a few days ago, he told reporters.
Zakaria said three suspects, including a woman, had been arrested to help in the investigation into the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Meanwhile, Jalan Raja Fire and Rescue Station chief Idris Mydin said the body was spotted by passers-by but it drifted downstream when fire-fighters tried to locate it.
“The operation to retrieve the body was called off at 7pm Saturday and resumed at 8am yesterday before it was finally found at 10.55am,” he said.
A witness, Chong Gaik Ngoh, 32, said he was having a conversation with several friends on the river bank when he saw the body, which was fully clothed and faced down, floated down the river at 5.10pm and alerted the fire station.
