Newly opened Smel’s Café is ingeniously blended among the residential houses of Chai Leng Park. Its menu carries an array of authentic European food at reasonable prices. Prof. Ramasamy, Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang officiated the outlet during its opening ceremony which was held on 23 April.
Situated just a stone’s throw away from the commercial area which is already over-saturated with eatery outlets, Smel’s Café is a delightful change for those who enjoy good food in a characteristic dining environment.
For chef and co-owner, Melvin Lau, opening an F&B outlet is simply a dream come true.
“I have always wanted to come back to Penang to open my own restaurant,” revealed the 26 year old talented chef, who hopes to one day wed his sweetheart Mimi Goh.
Having spent almost six years in Singapore, Melvin mastered his culinary skills at the island-state before venturing into business with his partner, Alan Oh who also owns an interior decoration business.
Smel’s Cafe is not only tastefully decorated, but reflects the comforts of a homely dining atmosphere.
“We want to create a friendly and approachable ambience so that people feel at ease while they dine.
“At the same time, I hope to share my experience with food as an art with my customers,” said Melvin on the concept and design of the restaurant
Among the chef’s specialties are the Cottage Pie, Irish Lamb Stew, Beer Batter Fish and Chips, Escargot, Pasta and Homemade Cheesecake.
Prices range from between RM10 – RM20 for main course and set lunches are available on weekdays from RM9.90 onwards.
