Twenty Fifth-Formers in Kedah expelled for violent conduct

Twenty form five students expelled from the school for assaulting another student on February 25. The parents of the students expressed their disappointment as the school did not give the students another chance.

The parents of 20 Form Five students of a school here are disappointed with the principal and parent-teacher association for expelling the students on March 10 allegedly after they had assaulted a student.

They claimed that the students were not given any warning or an opportunity to appeal following the incident on Feb 25 when a Form Four student was allegedly assaulted at the school’s surau.

Jasmi Mohd Noor, 44, the father of one of the students, said he understood that the school had to take disciplinary action in the matter but added that expulsion was too extreme a penalty.

“I am disappointed with the action of the principal and parent-teacher association in expelling the students. They should have been subjected to caning before the heavier penalty,” he told reporters at the school.

The parents met with the principal at the school at 8am today to discuss the expulsion of their children but were disappointed that the principal did not back down on the expulsion decision

Shukri Ali, 42, the father of another student, said he was concerned because the students would be sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination this year.

The Kedah Education Department could not be reached for comment.
