CJMYFive girder beams of the Pujut Link flyover of the Pan Borneo Highway have collapsed injuring two workers, with one of them sustaining serious injuries.
According to The Borneo Post Online the workers were rushed immediately to Miri Hospital for emergency treatment in the incident which occurred at about 2.20pm. Investigations are underway to identify the cause of accident.
It was reported that seven girder beams has been put up for Span 2 of the Sungai Miri Bridge which was completed shortly before the collapse.
The beams toppled and damaged the crane and prime mover below. It was suspected that the incident occurred during the welding process. The remaining beams have to be welded to stabilize the girder beams vertically to work on Span 1.
Meanwhile, the contractor have been ordered to reinforce the structure to avoid the recurrence of the incident.
