Bride-to-be dies after liposuction at beauty salon goes wrong

A Malaysian model died after undergoing a liposuction procedure at a beauty salon that was not licensed to perform the procedure.

23-year-old Coco Siew Zhi Shing signed up for a RM2,500 package to do liposuction on her arms with a beauty salon she found online, as she had been preparing for her wedding to her boyfriend in South Africa next year.

Ms Siew visited the salon for the first time with her friend on Saturday afternoon. She received an injection for anaesthesia upon arrival, Chinapress reported.

About an hour following the injection, she started to feel unwell and her heartbeat stopped. Her friend quickly called for the ambulance and the paramedics tried to resuscitate Siew.

She was rushed to hospital after efforts to resuscitate her failed and she was pronounced dead at around 5pm at the hospital.

Malaysian police have detained the owners of the beauty salon, a woman and her daughter after investigations revealed the salon is only registered as a beauty product distributor and not licensed to provides cosmetic surgery.

The salon had performed the procedure on at least 10 customers previously with liposuction packages priced between RM1,500 and RM3,800, according to local media reports.

Ms Siew’s brother Mr Xiao said his family was especially grieved that they did not arrive at the hospital in time to see his sister before her passing.
