A development firm was today fined RM3,000 for illegally tapping water for its apartment construction site in Sri Hartamas.

Sessions Court Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad imposed the fine after the company’s director, Tham Kok Wah, on behalf of the company, pleaded guilty on the charge of making an illegal connection to the main water pipe in Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, here, on April 29, 2008.

The judge also ordered a jail sentence of ten days if Tham failed to pay the fine.

Prosecuting officer V. Kirupakaran from the National Water Services Commission informed the court that the offence had caused a loss of approximately RM107,000 to water concessionaire Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).
Tham, who represented himself, in his mitigation for a lenient sentence, told the court that this was the company’s first offence.
