The long queue at Nasi Lemak Bumbung in Taman SEA, Petaling Jaya, is evidence of Malaysians’ love for the national food.

The Nasi Lemak Bumbung has been selling their much sought-after Nasi Lemak for over 20 years.

Contrary to its name Bumbung (roof), this stall does not have a roof. You can find the stall sandwiched in an alleyway between two rows of shop lots.

However, it is the cleanest alleyway you can find, with walls painted and red-coloured plastic tables neatly arranged in two rows, interspersed with plants.

Most importantly, it serves one of the best Nasi Lemak in Klang Valley.

The speciality of Nasi Lemak Bumbung

Service here is highly brisk. So, don’t be surprised if you receive your food before your drinks.

Nasi Lemak Bumbung’s cash cow is their Nasi Lemak. However, they also serve fried noodles and a good dessert.

Apart from their Nasi Lemak, the Maggi Goreng and Indomee Goreng are good choices for those on a diet (or not really). The noodles are springy and not soggy.

The rice is cooked just right using coconut milk to soften but not clumpy. The pandan leaf gives the rice a gentle fragrance.

Their famous sambal accompanies the rice. It’s a little spicy and tangy with a slightly sweet undertone. To top it up, they serve freshly sliced cucumber, fried peanuts and anchovies.

The Nasi Lemak Bumbung is not complete with the runny sunny side up. You can also ask for eggs well-done.

Beware of the peak time

Nasi Lemak Bumbung

Nasi Lemak Bumbung opens from 4 pm onwards every day except for Sundays when it opens at 5.30 pm.

It gets crowded around 8 pm with a long queue of hungry customers waiting for their seats at the table.

The best time to go for your Nasi Lemak if you don’t like queuing is before 7.30 pm because the stall is crowded anytime after that. The wait time can go up to an hour.

Nevertheless, don’t get discouraged when you see a long queue. It moves relatively fast, and you can get a seat in 10 minutes if you are lucky.

Anytime after 8.00 pm is considered a peak time at the stall, and it stays that way until midnight.

The stall also offers takeaway services, and you can order online for delivery service.

Nasi Lemak Bumbung is located at Jalan 21/11B, Sea Park 46300 Petaling Jaya. It’s at the alley between Sun Fatt Kee Restaurant and Seapark Maybank.
