After two Cantopop editions, Cabaret Series: Golden Melody series is set to unveil its
maiden Mandopop instalment.
Presented by klpac, The Actors Studio Seni Teater Rakyat and MUKA Space, Cabaret Series: Golden Melody 3 will preview on 9 November 2022, followed by regular performances from 10 to 13 November 2022 in Pentas 2.
With already a string of successful concerts under their belt, directors Ian Chow and
Easee Gan now rounds up the top hits, mostly from the 90s, by the who’s who of
Mandopop for this first outing.
When we talk about Mandopop, one name stands out – the irrefutable Queen of
Mandopop A-Mei. Some may not know that she owes her meteoric rise to Tom Chang,
who unfortunately passed away after producing her first two albums.
As a heartfelt tribute, music lovers will be able to enjoy two songs Tom Chang wrote for A-Mei called Sisters 《姐妹》and The Moment I Think of You 《一想到你啊》as well as two of his own
The Sea 《大海 》and My Future is Not a Dream 《我的未来不是梦》.
If there is one thing Mandopop is known for is its tear-jerking ballads that are KTV
staples. This includes Prince of Love Ballads, Jeff Chang’s Love is Like a Tide 《爱如潮
水》, Jonathan Lee’s Across the Ocean 《漂洋过海来看你》, Na Ying’s It Was a Dream
《梦一场》, Chyi Chin’s Night After Night 《夜夜夜夜》as well as the God of Song Jacky
Cheung’s She Came to My Concert 《她来听我的演唱会》.
If rock ballads are more your thing, fret not. Golden Melody 3 will also be serving up
songs by two of the most well-known bands in the region – Wu Bai & The China Blue
and rock duo The Power Station, including the famed Norwegian Wood 《挪威的森林》
based on the book of the same name.
Mandopop fans can also enjoy songs by many other household names like Sally Yeh,
Wakin Chau, Rene Liu, Jeremy Chang, Aaron Kwok, as well as pop divas Sandy Lam
and Karen Mok in the upcoming concert.
Like its predecessor, Cabaret Series: Golden Melody 3 promises a healthy dose of
nostalgia and plenty of feel-good factors.
Audiences are encouraged to sing along to their favourite songs alongside the singers and band – MayJune Tan (vocalist), Ruby Faye (vocalist), Tan Li Yang (vocalist), Dickson Chai (vocalist/guitarist), Jacqueline Teng (music director/keyboardist/vocalist), Toh Shir Ling (keyboardist/vocalist), Alex Lee (percussionist), Timothy Voo (bassist) and Jeremy James Kong (electric guitarist).
Licensed by MACP, tickets are priced at RM65 for normal shows (10 – 13 November)
and RM45 for preview night (9 November).
