June is set to be a remarkable month for music enthusiasts as the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) unveils not one, but two captivating concerts that will captivate audiences.
From 3 to 4 June 2023, brace yourself for “A Magical Adventure,” a concert presented by Birdian Saxophone Quartet and klpac, followed by “Beyond Mozart” from 30 June to 2 July. Both concerts will take place in the mesmerizing Pentas 2 at klpac.
A Magical Adventure with Disney Classics at klpac
Relive the enchantment of Disney with “A Magical Adventure,” a delightful performance brought to you by Birdian Saxophone Quartet and klpac. Led by the talented Sze Gee Chew, this concert will feature the largest flute ensemble in Malaysia, the CGFA Flute Choir. Over the past nine months, 30 passionate flautists from diverse backgrounds have rehearsed tirelessly to create an unforgettable musical experience.
Get ready for the world of Disney’s timeless classics. Immerse yourself in the magical melodies of “When You Wish Upon A Star” from Pinocchio, which won the prestigious 1940 Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Experience the iconic “Mickey Mouse March” theme song and the mesmerizing “Under the Sea” by Alan Menken from The Little Mermaid. The repertoire also includes beloved hits from Aladdin, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, and the chart-topping “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana.
With a selection that caters to all ages, this concert promises to be a mesmerizing journey through Disney’s captivating music.
Beyond Mozart: Exploring the works of renowned composers
Following the enchanting “A Magical Adventure,” klpac continues its musical journey with the klpac String Orchestra’s inaugural concert of the 2023 season, “Beyond Mozart.” Under the baton of Resident Conductor and Music Director Andrea Sim, the orchestra delves into the masterpieces of Mozart, taking the audience on a transcendent journey through the Classical era and beyond.
Prepare to be captivated by Mozart’s timeless works, including the lively Overture from his comic opera The Marriage of Figaro, the joyous Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music), and the heartfelt Ave verum corpus. The concert also pays tribute to Ludwig van Beethoven, showcasing the first and third movements of Symphony No. 5, known for its iconic four-note motif.
“Beyond Mozart” goes beyond geographical boundaries, featuring a sampling of works from England, Finland, and Russia. The klpac String Orchestra will mesmerize the audience with Peter Warlock’s vibrant Capriol Suite, Jean Sibelius’ evocative Impromptu for Strings, Op. 5, and Gustav Holst’s enchanting St. Paul’s Suite, among other captivating compositions.
