Angkasa-X, a prominent technological-social inclusion company, has announced its plans to launch the A-SEANSAT-PG1 (PG1) satellite on June 27.
This milestone marks a significant step forward for Malaysia’s space tech ecosystem and reflects Angkasa-X’s commitment to driving the ASEAN space economy.
By utilizing its technological expertise, Angkasa-X aims to lead the way in the development of low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite constellations, fostering innovation and providing Satellite-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings to ASEAN countries.
Angkasa-X spearheads satellite launch and LEO constellations
The much-anticipated launch of the PG1 satellite is scheduled for June 27 at 7:30 PM Malaysian time from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia.
The event will be broadcast live at three locations in Malaysia, including the offices of the Malaysian Space Agency, the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Bhd, and Universiti Sains Malaysia.
This launch signifies Angkasa-X’s ambition to establish constellations of LEO satellites that will be designed and assembled within Malaysia, driving the growth of the space tech industry in the region.
The Penang government has expressed its excitement and support for Angkasa-X’s upcoming satellite launch.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow praised the collaboration between Angkasa-X and the state government, which has laid the foundation for the realization of this significant achievement.
The launch of the PG1 satellite positions Penang as a prominent player and launchpad for the ASEAN space economy, bringing pride and recognition to the state and the country as a whole.
Angkasa-X’s vision for a robust space economy
Dr Sean Seah, Chairman of Angkasa-X, expressed gratitude to the Penang government for its unwavering support throughout the company’s journey.
He highlighted that the launch of the PG1 satellite represents a significant milestone for Angkasa-X since its inception in 2021.
Through the deployment of PG1 and future satellites, Angkasa-X aims to establish a robust space economy in ASEAN, ensuring affordable and accessible data connectivity and crucial information for society, governments, and businesses.
Angkasa-X has partnered with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to establish the Angkasa-X Earth Station and Space Technology Centre at the USM Engineering Campus.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this facility took place recently, and it is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
This state-of-the-art centre will serve as a hub for research and development, as well as the assembly, integration, and testing of LEO satellites, forming the backbone of the Angkasa-X A-SEANSAT LEO satellite constellations.
