Experience cinematic magic with live orchestra & renowned vocalists at KLPAC’s Magical Movie Moments III from Oct 6-8, 2023.

The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac) is set to captivate audiences once again with its family-friendly offering, Magical Movie Moments III by The klpac Orchestra. This eagerly awaited event will take place from the 6th to the 8th of October 2023, gracing Pentas 1 with a harmonious celebration of timeless cinematic magic.

Film enthusiasts and music aficionados alike have been anticipating this extraordinary event, as the last edition of Magical Movie Moments took place four years ago. This is a unique opportunity for everyone to relive the enchantment of beloved cinematic moments, all while experiencing the power of live orchestral performances.

A star-studded orchestra

Film music is an integral element that can either elevate or diminish the impact of a movie, and the melodies that strike a chord with audiences tend to linger long after the final credits roll. From the global phenomenon that was “Frozen” to a plethora of other cinematic treasures, Magical Movie Moments III, under the baton of Maestro Lee Kok Leong, The klpac Orchestra’s Music Director and Resident Conductor, promises to bring these iconic soundtracks to life with a touch of cinematic magic.

Beyond the orchestra’s grandeur, Magical Movie Moments III boasts an impressive lineup of vocalists, including Yonlynn, a standout contestant on the reality show “All Together Now” and the lead vocalist of Malaysia’s homegrown indie sensation, FAZZ. She shares the stage with fellow vocalists Jamie Tan, known for her role in “A Hen-Made Tale,” the talented MSS Sings Alan Menken, Kay Wong Sze Yen, who earned a Best Vocalist nomination for her performance in The klpac Orchestra’s “Magical Musicals,” and Joshua Anthony Gui, acclaimed for his portrayal of Jason in “Sepet The Musical.”

A glimpse into the featured musical segments

A highlight of the program is “From Musicals to Movies,” which features music from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical-historical film “Evita” and the Concert Suite from “The Polar Express” by Alvin Silvestri and Glen Ballard. Silvestri, renowned for his collaborations with Robert Zemeckis, has composed music for iconic films like “Forrest Gump” and the “Back to the Future” series.

The concert also presents “Songs from the Magical World,” a heartfelt tribute to Disney Legend Alan Menken, the genius behind beloved Disney tunes featured in classics such as “The Little Mermaid,” “Pocahontas,” “Mulan,” and “Aladdin.” These selections, arranged by Ant Chua Su Ting, will be beautifully performed during the concert.

No discussion of cinematic magic would be complete without acknowledging the influence of esteemed Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi. Anime enthusiasts will rejoice as “Joe Hisaishi’s Classics” takes center stage, featuring selections from Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpieces “Princess Mononoke” and “My Neighbor Totoro,” meticulously arranged by Yeo Chow Shern.
