Express Rail Link (ERL) has announced a significant development in its service offerings through a partnership with aviation technology provider SITA. The collaboration involves the installation of SITA Check-in Kiosks and SITA Self Bag Drop services at the KL City Air Terminal in KL Sentral.

This upgrade aims to streamline passenger processes and reduce the hassle of checking in at the airport. The new facilities are scheduled to be installed and operational by the second quarter of 2024.

SITA Flex, a robust next-generation platform, will support the hardware, ensuring smooth and efficient passenger processing both on and off the airport. The introduction of self-check-in and self-bag drop services signifies a major step towards enhancing passenger experience and modernizing the check-in process at ERL.

The collaboration between ERL and SITA heralds a new era in airline check-in and passenger convenience. The introduction of self-check-in and self-bag drop (SBD) kiosks is expected to significantly expedite the check-in process, allowing passengers to tag and drop off their bags in under 30 seconds. This convenience mirrors the SBD kiosks already in operation at KL International Airport Terminal 2 since March 2018.

ERL’s CEO, Noormah Mohd Noor, highlighted the potential benefits of this partnership for both airlines and passengers. The self-check-in and self-bag drop facilities promise to enhance cost-efficiency for airlines while providing added convenience to passengers.

These kiosks, identical to those at KL International Airport, will enable any airline currently offering kiosk check-in at the airport to seamlessly extend this service to KL Sentral.

Noormah expressed ERL’s commitment to providing passengers with a seamless and efficient travel experience. The in-town check-in facility was recently reopened in September, with Malaysia Airlines being the first to restart check-in services, followed by another Malaysia-based airline later in the same month. As air travel continues its recovery, ERL is dedicated to enhancing the passenger journey.
