Since the outbreak of violence on October 7, 2023, the people of Gaza have endured a staggering toll, with at least 3,250 Palestinians losing their lives, a quarter of whom are innocent children. Additionally, 600,000 individuals have been displaced, and 12,800 are feared to be injured. Fear and chaos have gripped the 2.3 million Palestinians residing in Gaza, underscoring the urgent need for humanitarian assistance.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Mercy Malaysia’s Palestinian staff and volunteers in Gaza have taken action to alleviate suffering. On the 17th of October, 2023, the organization intensified their efforts to aid the wounded and displaced. Cash aid was distributed to 60 individuals who had not only endured the destruction of their homes but had also lost their beloved family members.

On the same day, MERCY Malaysia Palestinian staff and volunteers in Gaza, Palestine distributed essential medicines to the Ministry of Health (MOH) as part of their ongoing efforts to address the pressing medical needs in the region.

“In complex emergencies and crisis like this, inevitably, oppressed people everywhere will seek protection and humanitarian assistance. Everyone deserve liberation, safety and equality, and the only way to get there is by uprooting the source of violence of the conflict.” the statement continued.

On October 18, 2023 Mercy Malaysia’s Palestinian staff and volunteers in Gaza have taken action to alleviate suffering by distributing a total of 600 hot meals to Khan Yunis, providing sustenance and hope to those struggling in the midst of this crisis.

“This unprecedented hostilities and rapidly mounting death toll underscore the urgency for all parties to stop the violence and ensure civilians are protected. All parties must adhere to international humanitarian law by refraining from deliberately or indiscriminately targeting civilians from both sides.” the statement emphasized.
