Acclaimed singer Sid Sriram announces new KL show

Sid Sriram, the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, is set to make a triumphant return to Kuala Lumpur this November as part of his highly-anticipated “Sidhart World Tour.”

The tour, which comes in support of his recent Def Jam Recordings debut album “Sidharth,” will kick off in Malaysia and continue with performances across Asia, North America, the UK, and Europe.

Sid Sriram has earned a reputation for delivering exceptional live performances, with recent shows at prestigious venues like Wembley Arena in London, The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, and a successful U.S. run supporting Bon Iver.

His sold-out concert at the Axiata Arena earlier this month left the audience in awe of his extraordinary vocals and stage presence.

From California kid to global sensation

Sriram’s captivating baritone voice effortlessly transitions between sultry croons, warbling falsettos, and the intricate melismas of traditional ragas. His early immersion in Carnatic music, starting at age three, endowed him with exceptional tonal precision and flexibility, making him a sensation in South Indian film music.

Prior to his rise as a playback singer in India, Sid Sriram, a musically inclined kid in Fremont, California, was influenced by diverse genres, including R&B, gospel, West Coast hip-hop, and blog-era indie rock.

While studying music production and engineering at Berklee School of Music, he gained recognition with a moving cover of Frank Ocean’s “We All Try,” hinting at the innovative directions in his own songwriting.

Sriram’s journey took a significant turn when he had a chance encounter with A.R. Rahman, a renowned Indian composer and music producer. Rahman provided Sid Sriram with his first break in Tamil film music, propelling him into the limelight and setting the stage for his extraordinary career.

“Sidharth” album: A genre-defying journey

“Sidharth,” released in late August, is a thought-provoking and genre-blurring project. It’s a reflection of Sid’s personal journey, blending elements of R&B, indie rock, and American pop.

The album, which features English-language vocals, delves into his experiences as an immigrant growing up in Fremont, California, during the ’90s and 2000s.

The making of “Sidharth” was a unique process. In the summer of 2021, Sid Sriram took a leap of faith and traveled to Minneapolis to collaborate with producer Ryan Olson, known for his work with Poliça, Gayngs, and Bon Iver.

The project was recorded during an intense week in the studio, with many songs being tracked live by Olson’s associates, including Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, a source of inspiration for Sid. The album showcases Sid’s sincerity and passion, making it a one-of-a-kind and compelling live performance.
