Gleneagles Hospital Penang marked World Heart Day 2023 by hosting a ‘Heart Awareness Day’ event at Gurney Paragon, aimed at advocating heart health and preventive measures.
World Heart Day is a global campaign targeting cardiovascular disease, the leading global cause of death. Under the theme “Use Heart, Know Heart,” Gleneagles Penang engaged its community in raising awareness of cardiovascular health.
The hospital is equipped for heart-related assessments, diagnosis, and treatment, offering 24-hour emergency services.
Promoting healthy lifestyles
The event underscored the importance of preventive measures, including balanced diets, avoiding tobacco, and regular physical activity. Dr. Annamalar Muthu, Consultant Cardiologist, emphasized the significance of early cardiac screening for women in detecting heart disease.
Key highlights of the event included complimentary health screenings, encompassing blood pressure checks, BMI assessments, and ECG readings using the Kardia Mobile ECG Monitor, offering an initial assessment of heart health.
Attendees also had the opportunity for hands-on experience with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training at a dedicated kiosk. This training empowered participants with essential lifesaving skills and built confidence in responding effectively to medical emergencies.
“Gleneagles Hospital Penang is dedicated to our community’s well-being, and this heart health awareness event perfectly aligns with our mission.
Empowering individuals with knowledge about cardiovascular health and promoting preventive measures can significantly reduce heart disease incidence,” stated Foo Ai Leen, Senior Marketing Manager, Gleneagles Hospital Penang.
