The 13th Borneo Bird Festival (BBF) witnessed an unprecedented gathering of nature enthusiasts at the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) in Sepilok, Sandakan, Sabah.
This two-day event, jointly organized by the Sandakan Borneo Bird Club Sabah and the Sabah Forestry Department, with support from the Sabah Tourism Board and Birdwatching Asia, has solidified its status as one of Malaysia’s largest nature festivals.
Celebrating natural wonders of Borneo
The Borneo Bird Festival holds a special place on Malaysia’s nature festival calendar, focusing on celebrating the rich avian and wildlife diversity of Borneo.
The festival’s core objective is to foster public awareness of conservation efforts, underlining the vital role of nature in our ecosystem. It also seeks to promote birdwatching and nature tourism activities.
The Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) in Sandakan, Sabah, has been a recurring venue for the festival, and this year’s attendees were treated to an exciting addition: the extended Rainforest Skywalk.
This canopy walk now spans an impressive 620 meters, offering visitors an extended opportunity to immerse themselves in the heart of Borneo’s lush rainforest.
Generous support
The success of the 13th Borneo Bird Festival was further enhanced by the generous support of various sponsors. Nikon and Futuromic Photo Av Sdn Bhd played a pivotal role by sponsoring the main prizes for the 1st Wildlife Photo Contest at the BBF 2023.
Their support added an exciting dimension to the festival, encouraging wildlife photographers to showcase their skills and capture the beauty of Borneo’s natural wonders.
Numerous other sponsors lent their support to this noteworthy event. Companies such as Sony, Fujifilm, Srishti, Swarovski Optik, and Sandakan MP Vivian Wong joined forces to make the festival a resounding success.
Additionally, the contributions of Cede Prudente Photography, Bornean Sunbear Conservation Centre, Sepilok Tropical Wildlife Adventure, and Sandakan Foto played a significant role in elevating the festival’s stature.
The 13th Borneo Bird Festival has once again demonstrated its ability to bring together nature enthusiasts, birdwatchers, and wildlife photographers in a celebration of Borneo’s rich biodiversity.
