Fostering art and culture in Ipoh
The Local Authority Choir Competition – YAB Menteri Besar Perak Darul Ridzuan Cup 2023 brought together ten teams from a total of fifteen Local Authorities in the state of Perak.
The event’s significance extends beyond the competition itself. It’s poised to make a substantial impact on the advancement of choral singing in Malaysia, determining the level of excellence in this musical domain and elevating choirs to the forefront in the country.
This undertaking aligns with MBI’s vision to transform Ipoh into a city of the arts, and they actively promote various artistic expressions, including painting, music, vocal arts, crafts, and more.
As part of this artistic drive, MBI has established an Arts Alley on Panglima Lane in Ipoh, operating every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Future plans may include extending business hours to weekends, responding to the demand for artistic engagement.
A revival of artistic opportunities
Ipoh, historically known as a hub for artistic training, boasts a legacy of famous singers such as Jamal Abdillah, Aris Ariwatan, ND Lala, and renowned rock bands like May.
In the past, Ipoh had studios that attracted young, aspiring musicians and vocalists. With the right initiatives, Ipoh has the potential to rekindle opportunities for art enthusiasts to nurture their talents.
The Local Authority Choir Competition, focusing on the state of Perak, is one such initiative aimed at nurturing and promoting artistic activities in Ipoh.
While competitions feature winners and runners-up, the essence lies in the dedication and camaraderie of each participating team, reflecting the extent of their artistic efforts. It serves as motivation for participants to strive for greater achievements in the future.
The competition is set to continue as an annual tradition, with other Local Authorities taking on the hosting role in subsequent years, aligning with the “Visit Perak 2024” campaign.
