Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) has confirmed that AirAsia is set to commence direct flights from Kualanamu, Medan, Indonesia, to Langkawi starting March 2, 2024.
This strategic move follows earlier reports of FlyDubai planning a new flight to Langkawi in February 2024 and the confirmation of charter flights from Poland scheduled for the first quarter of the same year.
Direct flights by AirAsia boost Langkawi tourism
LADA’s recent Facebook update celebrated the positive development, hailing the new direct route between Kualanamu, Medan, and Langkawi as “good news for Langkawi’s tourism community.”
However, specific timetable details for the upcoming direct service are yet to be released on independent booking platforms.
Currently, travellers can opt for an AirAsia flight from Kualanamu to Kuala Lumpur, followed by a daily direct flight to Langkawi. The introduction of direct flights is anticipated to significantly reduce travel time, making the journey more convenient for tourists.
LADA’s push for direct flights and tourism growth
LADA is actively engaged in encouraging airlines to introduce more direct flights to Langkawi from key markets, aiming to amplify holiday traffic and bolster the island’s tourism industry.
The Facebook post from LADA expresses hope for collaboration across the tourism industry in Langkawi to capitalize on the momentum generated by new tourist arrivals and encourage repeat visits.
By offering diverse attraction products, Langkawi aims to establish itself as a preferred destination for both first-time and returning visitors.
The introduction of AirAsia’s direct flights from Kualanamu to Langkawi marks a significant step towards enhancing the accessibility of this popular tourist destination.
With LADA’s proactive approach in fostering collaboration and encouraging direct connections, Langkawi is poised to further establish itself as a premier destination in the region.
