ESCAPE Greenie Program expands to inspire eco-literacy in kids

Sim Leisure Group expands ESCAPE Greenie Program, inspiring eco-literacy among Malaysian school children with hands-on activities and corporate partnerships.

Sim Leisure Group Ltd (SLG), a renowned international theme park developer, has announced the expansion of its ESCAPE Greenie Program, an eco-literacy initiative designed to instill a love for nature among Malaysian primary school children. The program, initially introduced at ESCAPE Penang in 2019, has successfully engaged 25,000 primary school students annually through hands-on educational activities promoting environmental awareness and sustainable living principles.

In an effort to broaden its impact, SLG aims to reach over 150,000 primary school children across Malaysia within the next three years. The expansion will particularly focus on underprivileged, disadvantaged, and lower socio-economic backgrounds by collaborating with like-minded companies committed to sustainability education.

A key component of the initiative involves the establishment of a dedicated Education Centre at each park, starting with ESCAPE Penang. The comprehensive program will encompass both in-classroom and outdoor learning experiences, enhancing the students’ understanding of nature and environmental conservation.

Subsidized Rates for Underprivileged Children

Sim Leisure Group plans to subsidize the Greenie Program, offering a special rate, including lunch, for qualifying primary school children nationwide. To further make the program accessible, SLG is actively seeking corporate or funding partners. Notably, A&W (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Etika Sdn Bhd, and RHB Bank Berhad have become the program’s first corporate partners, formalizing their commitment through a signing ceremony held on February 7.

The signing event marked not only a significant collaboration but also highlighted Sim Leisure Group’s dedication to sustainability. Executive Chairman Datuk Sim Choo Kheng expressed his long-standing ambition to inspire young Malaysians to cherish nature and elevate eco-literacy among the youth.

“I have always maintained that if you want children to protect nature, they must first fall in love with nature. And our ESCAPE Parks provide the perfect environment to facilitate this,” stated Datuk Sim Choo Kheng.

Sim emphasized ESCAPE Penang’s fulfillment of the vision to create an adventure park that blends excitement with conservation. Additionally, he unveiled a groundbreaking sustainability initiative – the installation of a photovoltaic solar power plant in ESCAPE Penang. This initiative will contribute to making 50% of the park’s electricity consumption come from renewable energy, aligning with the park’s commitment to becoming Malaysia’s first truly carbon-neutral theme park.

Sim Leisure Group’s ESCAPE Greenie Program signifies a concerted effort to foster a generation of environmentally conscious Malaysians, promoting both education and sustainability within the realm of entertainment and recreation.
