Langkawi celebrated the arrival of Flydubai’s inaugural flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), marking a significant milestone for the island’s tourism sector.

The Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), alongside Tourism Malaysia, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), and other government agencies, joined forces with local tourism industry players to extend a warm welcome to the new flight service.

Flydubai enhances Langkawi’s connectivity

Flydubai’s addition to the roster of scheduled flights to Langkawi has bolstered the island’s connectivity, with a total of 185 weekly flights now serving the destination.

The Flydubai route operates from Dubai International Airport Terminal 2 (DXB), UAE, to Langkawi International Airport (LGK), with a brief stopover at Penang International Airport (PEN).

Utilising Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, Flydubai ensures daily flights to Malaysia, providing travellers with a seamless connection to Langkawi from over 120 destinations worldwide via Dubai.

The commencement of the Flydubai route holds promising economic prospects for Langkawi, with an anticipated influx of tourists from West Asia, Europe, Africa, and beyond.

Dato’ Haslina Abdul Hamid, Chief Executive Officer of LADA, expressed optimism about the economic benefits the new route would bring to the local community.

“The opening of this route will bring economic benefits to the people of Langkawi with the arrival of tourists from West Asia, Europe, Africa, and other regions,” noted Haslina.

The strategic positioning of Dubai as an aviation hub further enhances Langkawi’s appeal as a tourist destination, facilitating convenient access for travellers worldwide.
