AirAsia reconnects Penang with East Malaysia

AirAsia has resumed direct flights between Penang, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu, signifying a renewed commitment to East Malaysia’s travel market.

The re-established routes aim to stimulate domestic tourism and economic growth across the region.

Strong demand and renewed commitment

The inaugural flight (AK5432) from Penang to Kuching boasted an impressive load factor exceeding 80%, highlighting strong demand for the reconnected route.

AirAsia and tourism officials celebrated the arrival with a traditional water salute.

The airline has committed to daily flights connecting Penang with both Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, offering convenient travel options between these major Malaysian cities.

“Resuming these links reflects our commitment to catering to the growing demand for travel between Penang and East Malaysia,” said AirAsia Group CEO Bo Lingam.

Nurul Ain Mohammed Yunus, Director of Tourism Malaysia Sarawak, welcomed the renewed connectivity.

“By bolstering connectivity, we anticipate a significant boost for Sarawak’s tourism industry,” she stated.
