Young talents shine in Klang Parade’s Merdeka Colouring Contest

Klang Parade’s Merdeka Colouring Contest saw 150 children express their patriotism through vibrant artwork, celebrating unity and creativity

Klang Parade was filled with a vibrant explosion of colours last Sunday as it played host to the Merdeka Colouring Contest, an event that brought together 150 children from various corners of the community. The contest, part of the broader Klang Parade Merdeka Celebration, transformed the shopping mall into a lively display of patriotism, where young artists expressed their love for Malaysia through creativity and colour.

From the moment the contest began at 2:00 PM, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and determination as children, divided into two age groups—7 and below, and 8 to 12—took their places. The young participants, armed with coloured pencils and crayons, meticulously worked on their Merdeka-themed drawings, each stroke of colour reflecting their national pride. For an hour to an hour and a half, depending on their age group, the mall buzzed with the focused energy of these budding artists.

John Tam, General Manager of Klang Parade, expressed his delight at the enthusiasm displayed by the children. “Seeing these kids dive into their artwork with such enthusiasm and creativity is truly inspiring. It’s heartwarming to witness how they express their national pride through art. The joy on their faces and the colourful masterpieces they’ve created truly capture the spirit of Merdeka,” he said.

Workshops enrich the celebration experience

In addition to the colouring contest, Klang Parade offered a series of engaging workshops designed to enrich the Merdeka celebration experience. A Merdeka Wood Ornament Painting Workshop allowed families to craft patriotic mementoes, while a Cookie Baking Workshop offered a fun, hands-on experience that families could enjoy together. These workshops added an extra layer of joy to the event, fostering a spirit of togetherness and creativity among the attendees.

The contest concluded on a high note with the awarding of prizes to the most outstanding young artists. The champion received RM 300 in cash and prizes, while the 1st and 2nd runners-up were awarded RM 200 and RM 100, respectively. Additionally, five consolation winners walked away with RM 50 worth of prizes each. The smiles on the winners’ faces were a testament to their sense of accomplishment, as they proudly celebrated their efforts alongside their peers.

The Klang Parade Merdeka Celebration was more than just an event; it was a heartwarming display of community spirit and creativity, providing a platform for children to shine while fostering a deep sense of national pride.
