Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), along with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and MyDIGITAL Corporation, introduced the Malaysia Pavilion at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC 2024) in Barcelona.
This showcase underlines Malaysia’s digital city initiatives, aiming to enhance urban living with technologies in sustainability and innovation.
Key Smart City initiatives drive digital transformation
As Malaysia’s primary 5G provider, DNB plays a critical role in these developments.
Datuk Azman Ismail, CEO of DNB, highlighted 5G’s role in real-time applications such as smart traffic management and urban surveillance, all depending on high-speed connectivity.
“These advancements in safety, security, and convenience for city residents are essential to Malaysia’s smart city aspirations,” he said.
MDEC’s CEO, Anuar Fariz Fadzil, emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “Our innovations reflect Malaysia’s vision for urban living and digital exports.”
The pavilion presents advancements in smart city technology, with displays from 11 Malaysian companies showing solutions for sectors like public safety, transport, and water management.

Malaysia to host SCE Kuala Lumpur in 2025
In a significant next step, Malaysia will host the first Smart City Expo in Southeast Asia, set for Kuala Lumpur in September 2025.
The event will connect ASEAN with global digital advancements as Malaysia takes the ASEAN chair, highlighting its regional leadership in sustainable urban planning and tech-driven growth.
MyDIGITAL’s CEO, Adrian Marcellus, noted, “Through partnerships, we’re fostering urban environments that are sustainable and inclusive, reflecting our commitment to resilience and innovation.”
