SpaceGut, a division of SOL Partnership Sdn Bhd, has launched Malaysia’s first AI-powered at-home Gut Microbiome Test Kit, marking a breakthrough in personalised health.
Officially introduced on 12 November 2024 at Cookhouse’s Artisan’s Playground, the test kit provides Malaysians with detailed insights into their gut health, backed by advanced lab testing and proprietary AI technology.
This new approach aims to empower users to proactively manage their wellness through personalised, accessible insights.
Understanding the importance of gut health
Gut health plays a crucial role in overall wellness, impacting digestion, immune function, inflammation, and even mental health.
The human gut hosts around 100 trillion microbes, collectively known as the “microbiome” or “Second Genome.”
These microbes carry 150 times more genes than the human genome, making them fundamental to health maintenance and disease prevention.
A balanced microbiome typically consists of 85% beneficial bacteria and 15% potentially harmful bacteria, supporting optimal digestion and nutrient absorption.
However, an imbalance—known as dysbiosis—can lead to inflammation, insulin resistance, and increased risks of conditions like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity.
Certain microbes assist in reducing fat storage, promoting heart health, while others, if unbalanced, can contribute to artery-thickening compounds, raising heart disease risks.
Despite its impact, gut health awareness remains low in Malaysia.
The 2023 National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) revealed Malaysia’s high rates of diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, with over half of adults classified as overweight.
These issues drive up non-communicable diseases (NCDs), a health burden impacting millions, especially older adults.
SpaceGut’s new kit addresses this “silent crisis,” helping Malaysians to manage and improve gut health from the comfort of their homes.
SpaceGut cutting-edge AI and microbiome analysis
The SpaceGut test kit utilises a straightforward process: users collect a sample using the at-home kit, which is then sent to SpaceGut’s laboratory for analysis.
The company’s AI technology assesses the sample against a database of over 50,000 microbiome profiles, identifying more than 30 health markers related to gut health.
From this analysis, users receive personalised dietary recommendations aimed at tackling issues like bloating, fatigue, and skin problems—all through a lens of digestive health, which also affects immunity, metabolism, and mental wellbeing.
“We’re seeing an alarming rise in gut-related health issues across Malaysia, from digestive discomfort to chronic illnesses linked to lifestyle and diet,” said Datuk Tony Wong, Founder of SpaceGut.
“Our mission is to make gut health testing simple and accessible, allowing Malaysians to gain powerful health insights from home.”
“SpaceGut provides Malaysians with an easy way to understand and manage their gut health,” Wong explained.
“Our AI and bioinformatics give people personalised insights that can help them take meaningful steps towards improving their wellness.”
With diet and lifestyle directly impacting digestive health, SpaceGut’s tailored approach ensures that Malaysians can make informed choices to support a balanced gut microbiome.
Beyond gut testing, SpaceGut has ambitious plans for expanding into other areas of wellness, including gut health supplements, wellness centres, and nutritionist services.
By offering a complete ecosystem of gut health solutions, SpaceGut aims to establish itself as a leader in Malaysia’s wellness industry, addressing both current needs and future trends in digestive health.
As SpaceGut continues its journey, Malaysians can explore how the company’s innovations could transform their approach to health and wellness.
