In the urban thrum of Petaling Jaya lies an unexpected sanctuary — one where visitors aren’t greeted by coffee machines or café clatter, but by a pack of snow-coated huskies with calm eyes and serene demeanour. HUSKISS PJ is something entirely different: a husky lounge built not on novelty, but on empathy — where ethical treatment of animals sits at the core of the experience.
Founded in 2017 by then 23-year-old Chan Jia Wei, HUSKISS was born not from a business trend but a personal mission. Chan, a hospitality graduate, envisioned a space where humans and dogs could interact ethically — with dignity and emotional presence at the core. His travels had shown him what animal cafés often get wrong: stressed-out dogs, chaotic crowds, and profit-driven operations. In contrast, Chan chose to build a space guided by quiet care.
From the outset, Chan made a critical decision that shaped the lounge’s identity — removing its café component to comply with local health laws and prioritise the dogs’ welfare. That single act drew a clear line: HUSKISS would not compromise its values. Today, guests book hour-long sessions, undergo hygiene briefings, and step into a cool, quiet space — not to be entertained, but to connect.
Each session designed with respect
Unlike traditional pet cafés that pack in as many sessions as possible, HUSKISS operates on a gentle rhythm. Guests meet the dogs just five times a day. Between each session, the huskies — joined by a majestic Alaskan malamute and a serene Samoyed — enjoy 30 minutes of uninterrupted rest. No poking, no forced selfies, no crowd stress.
Each dog’s temperament is respected. Some approach playfully, others lie quietly nearby. Staff remain attentive, helping guests — including children, grieving pet owners, and the dog-shy — engage at their own pace. This thoughtful environment turns what could be a novelty into something far deeper: emotional restoration.
With calm lighting, clean interiors, and softly padded floors, the lounge offers more than just cute photo ops. It offers presence. The RM65 session fee covers the experience, a complimentary drink, and a professional photo at the end. But what guests carry home can’t be measured in ringgit: it’s the rare feeling of being truly seen — perhaps even visited — by an animal who isn’t there to perform.
Beyond the lounge
But HUSKISS is more than a lounge. It’s a lifestyle ecosystem built on compassion. The same ethics that govern the in-house experience extend into its external services.
For Klang Valley dog owners, HUSKISS offers at-home training sessions using positive reinforcement methods. The team also provides pet-sitting services during holidays, helping dogs stay stress-free in their own environments. And for those seeking a different kind of gathering — birthdays, team-building events, or even mental health retreats — HUSKISS opens its doors for private bookings, offering soul-soothing alternatives to noisy venues or sterile meeting rooms.
Through all of this, Chan has stayed true to his vision. HUSKISS isn’t backed by viral marketing or corporate sponsors. Its quiet popularity has grown purely through word of mouth, repeat visits, and heartfelt testimonials.
What makes HUSKISS so quietly powerful is this: it doesn’t try to be loud. It doesn’t sell cuteness. It offers connection — the kind that lingers long after you leave, perhaps with husky fur still clinging to your shirt and a little more lightness in your heart.
HUSKISS is located at 80-G, Block G, Zenith Corporate Park, SS7/26, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
