Around 100 media officers and event managers from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) took part in the Professionalism Enhancement Workshop: Event Executive, U-Media and New Media Officers UPSI 2025. The two-day programme, organised by the Corporate Communication Division (BKK), was held from 13 to 14 August at Hotel Scholar’s Suites, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus.
Focus on communication and professionalism
BKK Director, Prof. Dr. Mohd Izwan Shahril, said the workshop was aimed at sharpening participants’ communication skills, event management capabilities, and digital content production to ensure the university’s information delivery is impactful.
“This workshop is designed to strengthen the competencies of media officers and event executives so that every university programme can be presented creatively, systematically, and with a positive impact on the audience,” he said.
He added that the sessions also highlighted the importance of understanding standard operating procedures (SOP), work ethics, and official protocols which form the foundation of UPSI’s corporate communication practices.
“We want all UPSI media officers to be able to produce news coverage, photography, and event management that meet professional standards, thereby elevating the university’s reputation at both national and international levels,” Prof. Dr. Mohd Izwan stressed.
Practical training and hands-on exercises
Over the two-day programme, participants attended modules covering news writing, media release management, photography and videography techniques, large-scale event management, and the application of digital technology for timely information dissemination.
“Participants were not only provided with theoretical knowledge but were also trained through practical exercises such as simulated news writing, short video production, and event management,” he explained.
Prof. Dr. Mohd Izwan also expressed his hope that the knowledge gained would translate into stronger communication practices at the university.
“Media professionalism is not just about technical skills but also discipline, integrity, and sensitivity to noble values in information delivery,” he added.
Commitment to building skilled media professionals
The workshop featured speakers from BKK UPSI, including Marini Masdar, Dr. Ghazali Din, Ramli Mosmin, Shahran Daud, Bazli Razak, Redzuan Shah Datu Sahadun, and Fisol Ahmad. They shared insights on creative event management, digital communication strategies, news narrative development, and professional photography.
“The organisation of this workshop once again demonstrates UPSI’s commitment to producing highly skilled, professional, and competitive media personnel across various communication platforms,” Prof. Dr. Mohd Izwan concluded.
