KLP48, the first overseas sister group of Japan’s iconic AKB48 to be established in Malaysia, has captured the hearts of a diverse fanbase since debuting in 2024. The group comprises 13 members including Malaysians Salwa, Yi Shyan, Lucine, Amanda, Ann Drea, Khalies, and Tiffany; Hillary from Hong Kong; Devi from Indonesia; as well as guest members Yurina, Haruka, and Suzuha from AKB48 and Cocoa from STU48.

The anniversary concert embodied the spirit of blossoming into maturity after a year of challenges and milestones. Organised by 48 Entertainment Sdn Bhd, the evening also showcased regional sister groups and local acts, underscoring the group’s unique cross-cultural appeal.

Electrifying performances and surprises

Opening performances by local girl group COËX

The night began with opening performances by local girl group COËX and singer-songwriter Ismail Izzani, who kept the crowd energised with familiar hits. Excitement soared when Indonesia’s JKT48 took the stage, winning over fans with their candy-coloured costumes and crowd-favourites such as “Rapsodi” and “Ponytail to Shu Shu.”

But the loudest cheers erupted when KLP48 finally appeared with “Oh My Pumpkin!” before delivering powerful renditions of “Aitakatta” and “Melon Juice.” The concert reached an emotional high point with the return of member Lucine, who had been on hiatus due to health reasons. Her comeback completed the 13-member lineup, much to the delight of fans. Together, they performed heartfelt songs including “Shonichi” and “Namida Surprise.”

Midway through the concert, a touching anniversary video chronicled the group’s journey over the past year. The members also shared an emotional message on stage:

“This past year has been filled with ups and downs. It wasn’t always easy, but we are deeply grateful for the unwavering support and companionship of our fans. Along the way, there were tears and sweat, but above all, there was joy and precious memories. We hope to continue bringing you smiles and strength in the future.”

Their words moved many in the crowd to tears, while chants of “KLP48!” echoed throughout the venue.

A heartwarming finale and new beginnings

The celebration continued with fan-favourite numbers including “Green Flash,” “Heavy Rotation,” “High Tension,” and “Flying Get,” showcasing the group’s trademark synchronised choreography and radiant energy.

For the encore, KLP48 and JKT48 shared the stage for a grand collaboration of “Oh My Pumpkin!” With more than 20 performers filling the stage, the finale was both spectacular and heartwarming, closing the night with a powerful sense of unity.

In their closing remarks, the members reminded fans that this milestone was not an ending but a new chapter.

“Tonight is not an ending, but the beginning of our journey toward our second anniversary. KLP48 will continue to work hard and move forward together with all of you.”

The “〜BLOOM〜” concert not only celebrated KLP48’s first year but also reaffirmed the group’s determination to grow, inspire, and bring fans along for the next stage of their journey.
