Malaysia’s premier cultural festival, Citrawarna Malaysia 2026, is set to return to Dataran Merdeka from July 24 to 26, bringing together the nation’s rich heritage, traditions and multicultural identity in a three-day celebration.
Organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, the festival carries the theme “Citrawarna Malaysia – The Rhythm, The Soul, The Nation”. The event forms a key highlight of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign and is expected to attract thousands of local and international visitors to the capital city.
First introduced in 1999, Citrawarna has become one of the country’s most recognisable cultural showcases, highlighting the unique customs and traditions of Malaysia’s diverse communities through large-scale performances and public participation.

Three days of performances and local flavours
This year’s programme will feature vibrant street parades showcasing traditional costumes, folklore and cultural expressions from various ethnic groups, including the Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan and Iban communities.
Visitors can also look forward to cultural dance performances, traditional music showcases and theatrical presentations that reflect the identities of different Malaysian states. Among the expected highlights are performances of traditional dances such as Joget, Sumazau and Kuda Kepang, accompanied by local musical traditions and rhythms.
In addition, spectators will have opportunities to participate in interactive cultural activities, including mass dance sessions designed to provide a closer experience of Malaysian hospitality and traditions.
The festival will also feature handicraft exhibitions and food stalls offering regional delicacies from across the country, allowing visitors to explore Malaysia’s cultural diversity through its arts, crafts and culinary heritage.
With its blend of cultural performances, heritage displays and community participation, Citrawarna Malaysia 2026 is expected to further strengthen awareness of Malaysia’s multicultural identity while supporting tourism growth under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
