Record turnout as over 800 Rawang residents join Selangor Saring programme

More than 800 residents completed comprehensive health screenings during the Selangor Saring programme at Selgate Specialist Hospital Rawang on Sunday, highlighting strong public participation in the state government’s efforts to promote early disease detection and preventive healthcare.

The annual initiative, organised by the Selangor State Government in collaboration with the Rawang Constituency Office, attracted 1,158 registrations between 9.00am and 3.00pm, making it one of the highest participation rates recorded for the constituency.

Held under the theme “Saring Awal, Cegah Awal” (Screen Early, Prevent Early), the programme seeks to improve access to quality healthcare by bringing specialist-level medical screenings closer to local communities while reducing the financial burden associated with preventive medical care.

Residents were able to undergo health assessments either free of charge or at heavily subsidised rates. Similar comprehensive screenings at private healthcare facilities can cost up to RM400, making the programme a more accessible option for many participants.

Wide range of preventive health services offered

Medical personnel from Selcare and Selgate Specialist Hospital operated multiple screening stations throughout the day, providing examinations for various non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular risk factors.

Participants also underwent early detection tests for prostate and colorectal cancers, reflecting the programme’s broader focus on identifying serious medical conditions before symptoms become severe.

Additional services included eye and ear examinations, as well as physiotherapy consultations offering advice on mobility, rehabilitation and musculoskeletal health. The combination of diagnostic, specialist and preventive services enabled participants to receive a more comprehensive overview of their health within a single visit.

The programme forms part of the state government’s broader public health strategy to encourage regular screenings, particularly for conditions that often develop without obvious early symptoms.

Digital system improves efficiency amid record attendance

To accommodate the large number of participants, organisers utilised the Selangkah digital platform to manage registrations and participant flow. The system enabled pre-registration, QR code check-ins and digital queue management, helping reduce waiting times and improve movement between registration, consultation and screening areas.

On-site personnel were available to assist participants unfamiliar with the digital process, while additional support was provided through the SELCARE Hotline.

Rawang Assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said the encouraging turnout reflected increasing public awareness of the importance of preventive healthcare and early medical intervention. He also acknowledged the contributions of healthcare professionals, volunteers, state agencies and organising teams in ensuring the programme proceeded smoothly despite the record attendance.

The successful event reinforces the Selangor Saring programme’s role in expanding community access to preventive healthcare while encouraging residents to prioritise regular health screenings as part of long-term disease prevention.
