Firewalking in Teluk Pulai

This video features the Taoist ritual of walking over a pit of burning charcoal. Generally strict rules and specifications apply as to the materials used, the praying rituals to start the fire and also rules as to who can perform this fire walking.

Ladies and minors are not alllowed to perform this ritual. Only those devotees who have followed the nine day vegetarian diet are allowed. Those born in the Year of the Tiger and Monkey have to carry specially prepared amulets or talisman.

This video is taken on the 7th day of the 9th Lunar month at the Hong San Si Temple in Teluk Pulai, Klang during the Nine Emperor Gods Festival.
